Dr. Cooper on making a muck of things with sensationalism …

Unfortunately, there has been no effort by the media or Congress to validate the sensationalism that has come from effective, if misguided, lobbying. The difficult regulatory framework has added to this.

Dr. Cooper on why SID&T …

I joined SID&T because I want to leave transplant better. Instead of pointing fingers should ask, every segment of transplant and donation should ask, what can I do? I am not going to sit quietly; we need better collaboration.

Dr. Cooper on the NASEM study…

The NASEM study raised important points but faded from view. We also need to focus on utilization of procured organs. Congress and the media have fallen for the false mantra of “not enough organs”.

Dr. Cooper on needing more organization not more organs …

OPOS have done a remarkable job. We need systematic decision making to reduce discards and stop finger pointing.

Dr. Cooper on utilization of donated organs …

How can we collectively work on greater utilization? CMS’ crazy expectations have created a transplant “hunger games”. We can’t just assume everything is going to work out under the current circumstances. We can’t get an answer out of CMS.

Dr. Cooper on SID&T speaking for patients and donor families …

At SID&T we speak for patients and donor families. The noisiest seem to miss that changing everything isn’t appropriate or logical.

Dr. Cooper on the best system in the world …

I am aware of the systems around the world, and we are the best.
