Modernizing the Communication Process
In a recent STAT News article written by Dr. David C. Mulligan, a transplant doctor at Yale-New Haven Hospital, Dr. Mulligan writes about a pilot program modernizing communications in the transplant process. Utilizing electronic medical record technology to “push the data about potential organ donors into the referral system.” This can be a major step forward for the hospital to OPO communications process. ICU staff will no longer need to transmit vital data over the phone, so they focus more time on patient care. Unfortunately, the new regulations ignore critical new ideas, such as this.
This new communications process can be achieved at little cost and bring the process from the 1970s pen and phone era to the digital age saving hours of work for all involved in the procurement procedure.
