Dear Editor:

The New York Times’ recent investigation, “Organ Transplant System ‘in Chaos’ as Waiting Lists Are Ignored,” was a worthy attempt to untangle the fraught and dysfunctional relationship between the organ donation and transplantation system and their federal regulators. But in attempting to indict the system for increased use of Out of Sequence (OOS) organ allocation, the Times only told half the story and missed opportunities to report on the new realities, good and bad, affecting transplant.  

We are Science in Donation and Transplantation (SID&T), a nonprofit advocate for scientific methods and principles to oversee the donation and transplant of organs, tissues and cells.
